赤福本店(おかげ横丁) Akafuku Main Store (Okage Yokocho)
The three ridges on the red bean paste represent the flow of the Isuzugawa River, while the white mochi symbolizes the river’s pebbled bed.
Since its founding in 1707 (Hoei 4), Akafuku has been cherished near the sacred grounds of Ise Jingu, becoming one of Japan’s most famous confections.
Guests are welcomed with water boiled in a traditional hearth, a symbol of hospitality, using spring water sourced from the Isuzugawa River, which flows through the sacred grounds of Ise Jingu. Akafuku Mochi is a simple yet elegant treat made of soft mochi topped with smooth red bean paste, crafted to resemble the serene flow of the Isuzugawa River.
